To Mr. Brennock:

Point taken. The invasion of Cuba was in 1961, a few months after Kennedy became President. My Apologies. Relied solely on (bad) memory. Big mistake.

Furthermore, the watchdog does not even read the watchdog: A vampire chronicle

(Lito B. Zulueta's reply to Luis V. Teodoro's Jan. 13 column.)

In his latest BusinessWorld column (Jan. 13, 2012), press critic Luis V. Teodoro has called me “ignorant,” among other ad hominem labels, for allegedly suggesting he “stole from (himself),” since whole passages of a critique (“Specious and Disingenuous,” Jan. 2, 2012) by the media watchdog Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), of which Mr. Teodoro is an officer, have reappeared in his column, “Rule Makers and Rule Breakers” (Jan. 6, 2012). He has denied committing self- or auto-plagiarism.

It seems Mr. Teodoro is himself ignorant that the CMFR has condemned auto-plagiarism before. In its issue of June 16, 2008, the Philippine Journalism Review, a publication of CMFR, documented a number of cases of plagiarism in the press, and quoted Mr. Teodoro’s colleague in the UP College of Mass Communications, Danila Arao (now UP vice-president for public affairs), warning against auto-plagiarism, which happens, the latter said, “when the author passes off as original something he or she has written in the past.” It seems Mr. Teodoro didn’t read that edition, which colorfully called plagiarists “vampires.” (So what’s an auto-plagiarist? Someone who sucks himself? “The horror! The horror!”)

It also seems that Mr. Teodoro—or is it the CMFR?—is much too fond of the word “furtherance.” The word appears in the CMFR critique, his Jan. 6 column, and his latest column. In the furtherance of word variety, it is hoped he (or it?) would try to expand his (or its?) vocabulary.

Editor, Philippine Daily Inquirer
Journalism teacher, University of Santo Tomas

Re the ampatuan massacre if pnoy will not criticize the very slow proceedings the way he criticize corona the case will lost its sting by next year's election and the poor victim's relatives slowly forgotten. I hope that some influential opinion writers who are lawyers or graduate of law write that the real culprit in the slow court hearings is the Rules of Court especially the rules on evidence plus it is financially good for the lawyers of both sides to have long hearings due to attorneys fees. And for the judge and justices the chance to be bribe by both sides.

Dean Teodoro, I'm a former student of yours in UP CMC. I just noticed some advertising keywords below this blog of yours. And I think even your meta data within the site has been changed (hacked?) that when people Google you, this site appears on top of the listings but the links are messed up.

I hope this was not recently hacked. Please change your passwords, and even username if possible. Thank you!

There was NO invasion of Cuba in 1959 and Kennedy did not enter the White House until January 1961 ! The American war in Vietnam was from Nov 1955 to Apr 1975. Getting your FACTS right would give far more credibility to all you write of interest. There is NO doubt that Fulbright's comment that " US military bases in the Philippines as simply in furtherance of US, rather than Philippine, interests" was quite accurate and remains so to this day under the VFA.
