		<description>Thank you for this post. I agree completely that Ninoy -- who wed the wealthy daughter of hacienderos, Corazon Aquino, in order to consolidate his political power -- was more trapo than hero, although his death did lead, eventually, to the EDSA revolution. But the true heroes of that event were not Ninoy, Cory, Ramos, or other self-professed 'leaders' at EDSA, but the crowds of people who actually risked their lives by massing in the streets.

And I also agree that ours does not seem to be a heroic age. As you said, "In the Philippine age of apathy, so few are prepared to risk much less than life, liberty or fortune to contribute their warm bodies to a demonstration or to even write a letter to the newspapers, outraged as they may be over high prices, poverty, corruption, injustice, and putrid governance." I'm a UP graduate, and enjoy reading only Bulatlat.com, the Philippine Collegian, Pinoy Weekly, etc. -- at least I'm reminded that there are some who are not apathetic.</description>
