To compare the aspirations of the American people with the Pilipino people in terms of betterment of the common weal is logical, but to expect similar results is a pie in the sky. The US midterm elections is a showcase of a working democracy for the world to emulate. The conduct of the elections was impeccable and flawless, from campaigning, voting, and vote counting. Consequently there was hardly any protestations of anomalies. The highlight of such a sterling democratic process was the absence of any police or military, which if any, would be considered a travesty and abomination. The pinoy electorate can only wish for a decent referendum, and even that wish can only be fleeting because the polce and military can easily make such wish evaporate. The upcoming elections, regardless of the noble intentions and desire for a viable referendum, will just be going thru the motions of lip service rule of law. In reality, the election will be an exercise of the absurd - knowing the futility and still going thru with it.
